“Catalina Shadows”, is a dyptic,
each panel is 18X24 and was painted in plein air over a two week period
at the same time of day in Catalina, AZ. Catalina is a growing community
20 miles north of Tucson, with stupendous views of the ‘back side’ of
the Catalina Mountains. |

“After The Fire”,
Oil, 11x14. 2005 was the worst fire in the Catalina Mountains near Tucson
ever recorded. Our beloved mountain community of Summerhaven 1 hour from
town was devastated. Tucson residents were stunned as this 9000 ft. ‘retreat’ is
a paradise of coolness for us all in the summers. When I finally was
able to go up to Mt. Lemmon (the highest of the peaks) I wanted to paint
some of the life of the mountain that remained. |

“Catalina
Morning”, Oil, 9x12. Walking on a popular trail on the ‘backside’ of
the Catalinas is where I set up to paint early one morning. There was
dew on the grass and winter had it’s hold. I had the place to
myself for 2 whole hours! |

“Cathedral
Rock, Oil, 11x14. Painting in Sedona is about the next thing
to Paradise I can think of. The birds, smells and views are so intense
it is overwhelmingly beautiful. This path winds a long way towards
the east side of Cathedral Rock. |

“The
Three Sisters”, Oil, 11x14. This rock formation near
Sedona is along one of my favorite trails. The trail is also called “The
Three Nuns” as you can make out their ‘habits’ along
the way. |

“Up
To Sedona”, Oil, 11x14. Heading north from the Village
of Oak Creek towards Sedona I pulled off the road and found a quiet
spot. The wind really picked up and I had to paint in a hurry, but
the colors were fabulous. |
