PEG AUGHENBAUGH

Since moving to Arizona in the mid sixties from Los Angeles, Peg has adopted the southwest landscapes and cultures as her own. Peg’s background as an elementary and middle school teacher provided her a platform for a wide variety of interests, travel and subject matter, which translated into many opportunities to create and teach about her favorite places.

Although Peg prefers to paint in oils, she will occasionally work in watercolor and collage to create ideas for paintings. Landscapes are her ‘serious’ side of art, but sometimes a ‘silly’ side emerges, mostly in her expression of favorite animals, which often morphs into greeting card subject material.

Inspired by her first art teacher, her great aunt, Peg Kaulback, of Youngstown, Ohio, Peg started painting in oils ‘ala prima’. Since that period in the 1980’s, Peg has also been inspired and encouraged through classes and workshops given by several artists in the Tucson and Sedona areas where she often paints en plein air, weather permitting. Peg has shown and sold her art in several Arizona galleries and shows in the Pinetop, Tucson and Tubac areas. She is currently a member of Southern Arizona Arts Guild.

Being dubbed a ‘late bloomer’ by an art colleague, Peg’s passion about the southwest is apparent in her innocent approach to her subject matter. Since retiring from teaching, Peg seeks out those special moments to reflect and capture the many moods of living in the southwest. During the hot summer months, Peg can be found in her studio working on miniature landscapes, watercolor, collage and planning future projects.

Peg lives in Tucson, AZ with her husband Dennis and constant companion, Belle the cat.
